Determination

“Set your sights and then overcome the obstacles”
Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one’s ideas, to take a calculated risk – and to act.
Andre Malraux: born November 3, 1901
To act…that is a determinating factor of success. Do you make excuses? It’s too hard. I don’t have time. I just have so much more going on. I’m too old. People come up with all kinds of excuses for not meeting goals. I hear people I work with say that they don’t go for Nat’l boards or a Master’s degree because they are too old, or they don’t have time. It is just too hard with a family. You know what? It is hard, but don’t use your age, your schedule, and your kids as an excuse. If you don’t want to do it, say I’m not ready for it yet. If you do then do it! Go for it! If you want something go for it.
And my students…OMG my students. The excuse kings and queens. I hate this phrase more than anything, “I was just…” ARGH!!!!! I do not care what you were just…stop talking, sit down, get to class on time, stop making excuses for why you are JUST doing what you were asked not to do! *ahhhh* I feel a little better now.
Sometimes it is difficult to meet goals. Sometimes life does get in the way. Still, don’t use life as an excuse. Go for your dreams, even if it is hard.
