I have had Christopher since I was two years old. At least that is what I am told. He has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I carried him everywhere. Read the archived post on Gran and you can see that was a chore. As I grew, well, I guess you can say the same. Christopher went to college with me and he has been kept safe all through married life too. Every child who I show him to immediately falls in love with him. I do not let anyone play with him. He is so fragile. When I was eight we moved. I had to bag all of my stuffed animals. Somehow they were left behind. Christopher was almost lost, but my uncle went back to the abandoned house and found my bag of animals. Many didn’t make it, but Christopher did. My Gran recovered him once. I was a young teenager then. I cried and cut off the covering not too long afterward. Silly I know, but it just wasn’t Christopher with the new covering. As you can see he has many stitches. He has been well loved. These days he lives in the safety of my closet. I got him down for this picture and my five year old begged to play with him. She promised to be careful as she carried him around the house then safely tucked him in on the couch. Because they love him so much, I tried to find similar monkeys for my girls. There are several on E-Bay that are similar, but I haven’t found any just like him. I don’t even know what he is really called. For me, he will always be my much loved…Christopher. (No clue where that name came from.)

I HAVE THIS EXXXXXXXXXXXXXACT SAME MONKEY!!!! Oh My Gosh!! I also had a brown one, with an orange-ish colored shirt and brown pants. My great grandma kept them for us at her house, in a hamper in the hallway. I was always half scared of them, but they were so awesome at the same time!!! I loved, loved, loved their little plastic shoes, even though they wouldn’t come off. This is great!! I have never ever known anyone to have this exact same monkey…I’m wondering now where they came from, and who made them. Must go search, thanks for making me smile out loud. =) Here from Micheles!

awwwwwwww! My oldest daughter had a horrid monkey too! She named hers monk! One day it got wet and started to stink, so, I told her I had to perform surgery on it. She got her doctor’s kit and we cut him open. It was stuffed with plastic bags! We yanked everything out and then refilled it with batting, then sewed him up together. Now her son has him! Thanks for the great memory! Michelle sent me, btw!

Hello, Michele sent me.
My oldest stuffed animal is a pre-Disneyfied Winnie the Pooh, from when I was a year old. He’s naked now (his vest long gone) but his paws are still sticky with velcro honey, and he sits on top of my office bookshelf.

that’s kewl K. i had me a “sock monkey” when i was young (so so many years ago!) he was gray, with white hands and feet, and red thread was used at the ends of hands and feet.
if i recall, he was sold at a yardsale when i was 15. i’ll have to search around and find a pic. strangly, i called him “scookey”. totally have no idea why???
anywho, i’m sure this is the first and last time i hear someone beg “ebay that monkey”. sorry, i just busted a gut when i read that line.

I have a stuffed John Lennon doll I used to take care of. I’ve had it for 16 years or so. I let my kids have at it. Since then, the guitar’s been broken, he’s lost his shoes and he has just recently been vomited on.
It’s been worth it to see him get some wear and tear. Hopefully one of my two boys will cart it out and wax nostalgic about it in about 20 years.
lovely.
