We have been cleaning like crazy this evening. Lots accomplished thanks to the help of Djembe. I’m feeling much better about the house.
Today was feed the hungry outreach at church. Many volunteers brought food, served trays, and delivered. In 30 minutes we served over 500 carryout trays. There was so much food leftover that we had to hunt for places that could use it. A really great problem to have! Several of us loaded the carryouts and took them to various apartment complexes in the area…those that we knew were lower income and would appreciate a hot meal. Many were sent to the retirement communities in the city as well. It was a really successful project and I enjoyed being a part of it.
Around the holidays we really start thinking about the less fortunate and reach out to help. The Salvation Army bell ringers (annoying as everything but a good cause) are out in force. Angel Tree, Operation Christmas Child, Feed the Hungry, and so many more programs are really great. I have to wonder about the rest of the year though. What about the non-holiday times? Why does it take a holiday to move us to help others in a big way?

I wish I had a simple answer to your question. Humans seem to be attracted by big events, and they forget that everyday needs are just as important.
It reminds me of the giant fundraisers to build huge buildings with names on them. But there’s no glory in funding the janitorial and maintenance services that will keep said buildings working far into the future.
Thankfully the world has folks like you to remind us of the need for balance.
