Genuine

Author: kontan  //  Category: Ramblings

There are just some people I can’t seem to figure out. Are they really genuine? At times they are open and approachable. They are open and friendly. Outside a specific element they can be standoffish and closed. Which is real? IMO the distant and closed is real b/c if approachable was real it would be constant. Maybe it is just perception.

clearing my head

I just finished my interest letters and my educational philosophy. I hate writing those. I have absolutely NO experience teaching at the university level so imo there is no good reason for them to consider me, but it would be so great if they would. OK, there IS a good reason. I am a GOOD TEACHER!

I’m not fully ready to move out of the high school arena, but there are days that it would be so nice. Although, friends of mine at the college/university level deal with the exact same things I do! RIDICULOUS! Helicopter parents, phew. OK, maybe they are good and serve a purpose. Cut the cord sometime. Oh my, I’m really not making sense. Really tired. Mind is running though. I’m ready for things to start happening. Doors are open, I’m walking through. No food is on the table yet. I’m wanting a full course meal and have fear that it will only be finger foods. Patience, patience, patience…SOUND MIND! and faith. Lots of faith.

Let me tell you how my hiring took place at my current school. I was substituting and harassing the principal every time there was a hint of an opening. I stepped into a tutorial position and hoped for my own classroom. Finally, I gave up trying to control everything. I stopped stressing over it and started accepting where I was and that when it was mine time the dinner would be served. First of August we weren’t even having appetizers. Day before school started, the full course meal was served. I stepped into my own class. Now granted it was with three preps, but I didn’t care…I was a full time teacher! That is what I have to do here. I have to step back and stop trying to speed up the process. I know that I can not control things and what is right for me will be available in time.

Here’s to waiting :)

tedious

This whole application letter of interest process is tedious.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. Lurk on… :)

And the rain came down…

Author: kontan  //  Category: Ramblings

OK, so it is actually more of a drizzle. It has been predicted everyday for the last three days. Yesterday was rather nice and so was Saturday. Today, they finally got it right.

Well, I have a confession to make.

I am reading a new book series. It was not my intention to get hooked on this series. I’ve always turned my back to it and determined it silly, and not my type of book. My intention was to screen the books for my nine year old. She received the set for Christmas. The series…I am shocked to have to admit…is Harry Potter. I know, I know…but they are REALLY well written! I haven’t seen the movies. I didn’t think they were up my alley either. As soon as I finish the series I’ll be watching those to see how close they are to the books. I was really surprised by the books. The story line draws you in and holds your interest all the way through. you identify with various characters and really get to know them in the books.

Since writing this paragraph I have been interrupted 4 times so I think I will give it up and tell you about my HP reading later. If you haven’t given any thought to reading them, or you were like me and pushed them aside as not your thing, I suggest giving it a venture. Great entertainment reading. Don’t expect to learn anything, other than the jargon of Harry Potter’s wizard world, but you will be entertained.

Gave it up…

Jem gave me a Zune for Christmas. I really liked it. I took it to DC over break and it was great to have along, but I gave it up today. I traded it for the iPod

Sage mentioned that he synced his calendar to his. If you would be so kind as to share the method of doing so I would love to sync my Google calendar. The hack to do so seems to be unavailable.

I have been against the iPod craze. I don’t like bandwagons. After spending the last couple of hours playing with mine I can understand why they are well loved. The Zune was great and has an amazing view screen, however the capability of the device is not in sync with the capability of the product service. iPod has more bells and whistles, and everything the little thing can do is available. I am already using iTunes with my phone so it is much easier to use with the player. I think I will actually drop Rhapsody, although I love my Rhapsody. Why pay for several music providers?

Hope this thing is as good as it seems! So far so good. Lovin’ the sleek design too!

continued frenzy

I am absolutely consumed with thoughts of kontan-future. So much is out of our control…or simply part of the waiting game.

Tonight I will just say hello to my lurkers and go visit my blogroll.

OK guys, I made it to Sage and then received a freaky “Google server error”

Off to read…

In a frenzy

Author: kontan  //  Category: Ramblings

The year is off to a great start. My students have crossed the maturity bridge and now are tolerable human beings. (Before Christmas referring the 9th graders as human is laughable.) They are behaving and most are even completing all of their work. I have been suckered talked into helping with mock trial again. I don’t mind, but it is just SO time consuming. I had turned it over to two new teachers and agreed to answer any questions the had. Turns out that one is unable to do it and the other can’t swing it alone. Sooooo here we go.

Then there is life.

No complaints. I have worked myself into a frenzy though. Jem went to talk to someone today. Everything was really positive. Now I really feel like the train is moving…the only issue is that I feel like I’m hanging on to the side. What if he gets it? What if he doesn’t? What about the house? When do we go on the market? When do we give up and list? What if if sells? What if it doesn’t? Where to live? Here? There? Will things work out like we hope? What about my dogs? The cat stays…no matter what. No one in their right mind would take her. We love her, but then she is ours and we have raised her since she was a few weeks old. She wasn’t very friendly then either. OK, she is fine. Life is just on HER terms. I want a place where I don’t have to find a home for the big dogs. I insist that if it comes to that then they HAVE to stay together. I don’t want to give Tiki up either. She is our spoiled little girl! The big girls are apprehensive and excited too. They know that Mom and Dad are talking a lot, and they don’t know what the future holds. I wish we knew. I do know all will be OK and that it is a good decision. I just don’t know which road we will be taking on this journey.

My favorite verse became my favorite while I was in Haiti. It was appropriate for our circumstances then and has been appropriate for many challenges I have faced. It is again right on target for our situation.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Tim 1:7

We have the power to make things happen…to pursue the goals that will benefit our family. We have the love that keeps us together. With that, we must have faith to keep a sound mind and make clear decisions.

And the winner is —-

Have you ever been plutoed?

According to happynews.com:

Pluto is finally getting some respect — not from astronomers, but from wordsmiths.

”Plutoed” was chosen 2006’s Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society at its annual meeting Friday.

To ”pluto” is ”to demote or devalue someone or something,” much like what happened to the former planet last year when the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union decided Pluto didn’t meet its definition of a planet.

Other words considered: murse, flog, and macaca.

Well now we know. I guess we can start using plutoed in place of other, less acceptable, words meaning to be devalued or demoted. I think you could even use it in the context of wronged. Last years word, “truthiness.”

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the American Dialect Society is staying on top of things. How long before words such as ROFL, ROFLMAO, LOL, and WTH get the recognition they deserve? My students have a lot of new words they would like to add to the list. OMG…if you really wanna laugh check out Gizoogle and put in your blog!

Bahahaha!

here’s the deal

Author: kontan  //  Category: Ramblings

Last night I decided to upgrade my wordpress install to 2.0.6. Simple enough. You download and unzip the software and then ftp it to your site after you have removed the previous version. You use the upgrade.php link and that should be it. I didn’t leave my old themes in the content folder so I went to where I stored everything that was in my kontansplace folder and moved them. Well, I didn’t move them the right way because the style sheet for my preferred theme, Mike Little’s Journalized, didn’t move so I unmoved the files planning to move them the right way. Well, somehow I managed to delete the them in my kontansplace backup folder so the changes I had made were not saved. I had to pull the theme from where I have it stored on my computer and I didn’t take the time to put the coffee cup back up top. I think I’m going to play with new header creations anyway. I changed the titles of all my sidebar boxes, but those will probably change too. Right now I don’t have time to deal with it because I want to get started rebuilding my husbands PitPass site. The banner that is currently above is my myspace network banner. I created it using the theme background. IMO it is really simple but elegant. My interests are drifting to simplicity these days.
