Post weird stories:
William Davis filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against the Murfreesboro, Tenn., police in December because, when they raided his home after complaints from neighbors, they seized and destroyed the 114 dead cats and one dead dog that Davis kept in freezers and which he said had “emotional value” for him. In addition, according to the petition filed in Chancery Court for Rutherford County (and uncovered by TheSmokingGun.com), the carcasses were potential business property, in that he was planning to start his own pet cemetery, and also one of the cats, he claimed, was destined for the Guinness Book of World Records because it had been so large at birth. USS Monitor Opens In VA
Exactly 145 years after the USS Monitor faced the Confederate ship CSS Virginia in the first clash of ironclads, a $30 million center dedicated to the Union vessel opened Friday. The Monitor Center, a new wing of The Mariners’ Museum, houses more than 1,200 artifacts from the Civil War ship and an interactive exhibition on both armored vessels.
The Monitor, a new design, and the Virginia, built atop the burned-out hull of the Union steam frigate Merrimack, fought to a draw on March 9, 1862, near where the museum now stands. The battle made wooden warships obsolete.
Galleries tell how the ironclads were built and feature efforts to recover artifacts from the deteriorating wreckage of the Monitor, which sank, upside down, during a storm 16 miles off North Carolina’s coast on Dec. 31, 1862. Sixteen men died.
The center’s high-definition ”Battle Theater” has 45 seats that swivel 360 degrees so viewers can experience the action as the fight is recreated through digital paintings, lights and sounds. Outside, visitors can stroll the deck of a 170-foot, full-scale exterior model of the Monitor.
Or you can start participating in the daily blog games such as Wordless Wednesday and Thursday Thirteen.
So, that’s what I’m going to do- visit my favorite sites and tell you about them and add a few blog games.
Life is a little hectic. The focus is on where we will be at the end of the school year and the opportunities that are available to us. I’m also putting a good bit of effort into getting in shape and staying healthy. We work out at the gym 3x a week with weights and do cardio for at least two days. After that, the day begins at home where always laundry and dishes await. Joy joy.
