Political junk
post based on this article linked by Annie over at A Yank Gone South Annie says:
What really scares me is that these kids are learning what to value in the political elections from someone. Is it my failing (or school’s failings) as an educator? Parents failing to talk to their kids about national and global issues? The news media for spending a little too much time talking about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, and not enough time on issues that impact us as a society? A combination of all of the above?
I try to encourage my students to vote. After reading that, if that’s the train of thought they are operating under…well…I’d rather they stay home until they can judge a candidate for something less superficial than their looks.
I’m with Annie. The editorial she links expresses great frustration with Hillary Clinton as a candidate. The issue is not with her economic, social, or foreign policy agenda. No, the author takes great issue with Hillary’s sense of fashion. Yes, there are serious problems in DC people. Too many government representatives trying to look all professional. ummmm-k.
What scares me is people who have NO idea how government works or what the candidates stand for will be out voting. For some there will be no research involved. There are some who will believe anything they hear on television, or read in a chain mail. When I listen to what my students say it is really scary. Vote…but make an INFORMED decision.

Wow, you’re still at it
It irks me when people vote for a candidate just because someone tells them that’s who they should vote for. What!?
