hectic

Mother better. Still no idea of exactly what is wrong. Still in hospital.
No new developments on NC.
Time for patience again, and you know how I feel about that.
Think things are going to work out.
NC move feels like a good idea and if all works out well I’ll have a friend nearby!
A little hectic these days. Finishing up grades and other end of 9wks stuff.
I finished my 30 hours of tech training!!!!!!! Hopefully, I will get a school laptop out of it and be able to stop using my own. This floating teacher thing hoovers and I hate having my laptop up there. If something happens to it I’m just out a laptop.

Off to work….

so much to think about!!!

Looks like NC will be our next step. I am all kinds of excited about the prospects. Unfortunately I am at a disadvantage because I have nothing to go by for choosing a school. There are several charter schools expanding. There is one that I would LOVE to be a part of. *oh please please please let things work out and be a smooth transition*

Spring forward with snow

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Looks like weather dudes finally got it right for our area…sort of. They predicted 2-3 inches and we received a good dusting. It lasted long enough to throw snowballs at each other and slush up the backyard.

When I looked out the back door to take the above picture I noticed the neighbors dog looked cool playing in the snow. Very call of the wildish, don’t you think?

It didn’t take long to melt. It would have been nice to have a little more, but glad it didn’t last long. I have a long drive tomorrow. Have to visit my mother. She’s in the hospital and the doctors are trying to figure out the problem. Please pray that doctors figure out what is wrong and can get her well.

Off to grade projects and raise my BP.

Throwing in the towel

PhotobucketI give. Blogging has become a chore and I think it is best to stop now before I decide to stop altogether. Actually, blogging isn’t the chore. I’m so frustrated and overwhelmed with school junk that blogging is secondary. Some days I just flat out do not feel like sitting down with the computer. Take for example now…I would rather go to bed early and rest. Instead I have to prepare for tomorrow. I have no desire to prepare for tomorrow. My students are completely unmotivated and it is beating me down. I know, it is my job to teach and motivate them. I say to you…try it and get back to me. Teaching is a give and take. Every class is different. I have basic material that is covered in every class, but my discussion is guided by student reaction and student questioning. It is very tough to be motivational when nothing you do works. My wish…I want them to care. They don’t have to care about the subject. I know that not all will. I just want them to care about passing.

Ready for break and it is a month away. I used to hate having spring break so early. I cling to the fact that in two weeks we will have a long weekend. Very thankful. I think having spring break in April will still be great. I just wish Jem’s was at the same time…ah well. He needs a break soon anyway so it works out.

So…that rant aside. Bye-bye 365. I will no longer post on obligation.

BTW, this was not an easy post to make. I am not normally a quitter. *sigh*

Waiting on the rain again

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Here we go again with another round of stormy weather. Really this weather is strange. Warm, sunny skies to cloudy gray…then stormy on to snow, back to warm.

Last Monday I posted radar images of the expected rain. Looks like we have a similar outlook this evening. I use weatherunderground for all my weather watching needs. I must tell you, this site is way cool. You put in your location and have several choices for radar watching. The local radar lets you animate and storm track. Regional radar gives you a broader view, and you can also animate. The newest feature I love…The wundermap is an interactive radar using Google Earth images with the storm overlay. You can animate and track. Very similar to the local radar, but you have the ability to put in exact addresses. Love it, love it. I can put in my address, animate and track, and be able to see the storm systems moving this way. I’m not sure how up to the minute it is, but it beats relying on pathetic news coverage like we had in MS. Such fun…

End of term projects and papers to be graded. Lovely. Nothing like reading to the patter of rain.

Imagination Prompts #1

From Imagination Prompts

If I had 15 minutes to evacuate my home before it was to be destroyed by a hurricane, what 10 things would I grab (not including people or pets)

People and pets would certainly be included so outside of that…
1. change of clothes for everyone
2. blankets for everyone
3. pet food
4. water/drinks/snacks
5. box with letters from Gran
6. laptops
7. box with photo albums
8. kids travel bag with DS/games/DVDs
9. insurance papers/important files
10. The fact is, we do not have a ton or irreplaceable items. If room would allow I would grab Chris, the monkey I have had since I was two. My trumpets. Jem’s drums.

Something to think about. What would you save? It makes you really evaluate what is important to you. When I look at my list I realize that the most important thing to me is the safety of my family. What would we need for a long drive to safety? Guess this is something that should be thought about. Maybe not hurricane evacuation, but for any emergency.
