I HATE THE NEW iGOOGLE!

If it ain’t broke, DON’T FIX IT! I loved iGoogle. I had my news feeds, my Google Reader blog feeds, breaking news, spellcheck, translator…tons of tools right when I opened my browser. I had tabs for world news, educational info, and other things that I like. Google gets a wild (read idiotic and obnoxious) hair to go changing things! WTH! Instead of tabs at the top they have tabs on the side. I don’t like my tabs on the side! It takes up room that is better dedicated to news feeds, it disrupts the viewing pleasure, makes you have to scroll to see your other tabs if you have them expanded and leaves a blank spot if you don’t expand them. It is a complete waste of space! Give me back the old iGoogle! Try googling “I hate the new iGoogle layout” and see what you get. It is very obvious that the change is not popular. Did I miss a memo somewhere that said this was coming? Am I *gasp* not staying techno-informed?!?! What happened here? Why is iGoogle ignoring all the “I hate the new iGoogle” posts in their forums? Bring back the old iGoogle, or give us the option to opt out of the new sucky version. If they don’t I’m going to have to find a new homepage. Anyone use My Yahoo? I’m open to suggestions.

Just in case you didn’t get the picture, I HATE THE NEW iGOOGLE!

Really? You think *you* hate the new iGoogle? I hate, loathe, abhor, detest, despise the new iGoogle way more than you do, I SO SUPER HATE THE NEW iGOOGLE I want to know what are my other homepage options out there besides Google. This stinks big time.

  • Cindy says:

Hallelujah! Found the solution (at least for now) to get the old iGoogle back — change the language preference under settings to English (UK) instead of English (US). Yes!

    Thanks for the info Cindy!

  • Thomas says:

Hmm… didn’t work for me. Still have the grotesque new iGoogle.

  • Cindy says:

You’re welcome, but it didn’t last, now Google’s made it so the English (UK) has the new iGoogle format too. Grrrrrr.

  • kontan says:

Mine is still not corrupted. I did look at My Yahoo. I don’t like the set up as much, but it will do if Google doesn’t get its act together.

    http://www.netvibes.com/

Use that as your homepage instead… Problem solved.

Seriously, if Google FORCE these changes and dont make them optional, I’ll just go elsewhere.

  • kontan says:

Wow, thanks Cynthrawl! Looks like a great alternate!

I read about a site on John Chow today called http://www.43marks.com – its like Igoogle but better cuz you can add you own bookmarks and the bookmarks can be websites not just gadgets and RSS feeds although you can upload your favorite RSS feeds too. Its free and totally customizable. Plus you don’t have to login to see your bookmars and RSS feeds

looks like Google has currently decorrupted the page for now…I have netvibes on standby, but I do miss my google reader

I agree, the new iGoogle is no good for too many reasons to list. I’m about ready to go find another home page solution.

I hate it, hate it, hate it! You can’t click links inside your emails anymore. In order to utilize your gmail the same way, you have to open a new browser window where the OLD gmail comes up anyway – why even bother? It SUCKS!

  • UGH says:

New iGoogle is horrible. The designers and management should be fired.

  • chris says:

The new igoogle just infuriates me its so bad i hate it they have ruined it everything is now such a pain in the ass to use and half of it doesn’t work anyway what were they thinking this is like 1998 not 2008 horrible absolutely horrible!!!!

  • iGone says:

Great alternative for all who hate the new igoogle – netvibes.com – Google has already stated that other countries’ igoogle formats will also be changed to the new and much hated format soon – send iEvil… er… google a message they will hear and leave! I deleted my account with them and my new netvibes home has all I had at igoogle and more – NO left nav menu, no wasted space and tabs on top! :)

  • kontan says:

I’m using netvibes on my work computer and it serves it’s purpose. I can’t believe iGoogle won’t move the tabs back to the top. That seems to be the biggest gripe people have. HATE that squished look and the side navi bar is useless to me.

  • john says:

i’m switching to netvibes, i hate the new igoogle too much to tolerate them, what were they thinking? have they totally sold out to the ChiComs?

  • andy P says:

What a load of old pony… why mess with something that works so well.

Obviously the only usability tesing on the new design was done with the interns who were to scared to point out they couldn’t do things properly!

Why not have a GO BACK button – segment the market and serve the client: Go Google Go!!
