Hail storm!
I had a GREAT time with Jem Friday. We drove to the theme park for a couple of hours of coaster fun, then headed home just before the rain got heavy. For lunch, we tried a new Thai place that I loved. Spicy and tasty, with exceptional service. Rested for a bit then I took off to finish Easter shopping. When I came home the storms were really getting good and I wasn’t even able to get my loot inside before all hail broke loose…

A friend of mine shot THIS VIDEO and I feel terrible for the terrified horses running in the background.
I am a terrible mommy…
While I will enjoy a wonderful day with my husband my girls have to go to school today…and it makes me smile. Yes, I am a bad mommy. The girls will be off to school by 8 AM and I will soon take a shower and get ready for the day. Today will be spent just me and Jem. The oldest is begging, “PLEeeeeeeeeaaaaasssssse-ah let me stay home today!” No. Please. No. Pleeeeaaaase-ah. No-uh.
I do understand. I wouldn’t want to go to school today either. But my school decided not to have school today and theirs chose to keep it on the calendar. Those…are…the…breaks. Sorry.
At least we have spring break together next week. I will find all kinds of cool stuff to do. Keeping them busy is a full time job.
Spring Break is here!
and wow…there are a lot of eggs on this page.
Spring Break…pending
In just a few hours I will be experiencing the joys of spring break.
Several things on my mind, but I really can’t write much about it. I just feel that sometimes students have too much influence in a small school, and certainly their parents do. I feel a former colleague has experienced a great injustice. Although I do not believe he is best served teaching high school, I do believe that he should have been allowed to finish what he started. Unfortunately, students who felt he was inferior and who were frustrated with their lack of success in his class were successful in securing his dismissal. When I say inferior, I am not referring to his ability to teach.
It is sad that such things are an issue in 2009. When he informed me of his departure I pointed out that when one door closes another is usually open. He agreed. I hope that for him this is just an open door to new opportunities. Despite my sadness at the cold hearted ruthlessness of some students I am warmed by the caring attitude of others. It gives me hope.
It’s a beautiful day. I hope it holds through tomorrow because I have a date with Jem. ~*~
Pinkin’ up
We spent the day at the local theme park and I am pinkin’ up for spring. Next time, sun block. It was worth it, 100%. We had a GREAT time. The girls are old enough to ride just about everything and to wait patiently or ride another ride while we ride what they are not tall enough for or too scared to ride. It was a great family day. I am a coaster fan. My husband is becoming one. Six Flags Atlanta was my theme park of choice, but there have been others. Now we are near enough that a season pass is feasible and we are making use! Today we discovered uncharted territory. There were areas and rides we hadn’t seen before. I chalk it up to the fact that when you know you are coming back you are not nearly as fanatical about getting to everything. There were three rides that make my favorites list today.
1. The Hurler
It’s a “woodie” with speed and thrill. I have to say for fun, this was my favorite. Out the gate I realized this coaster was different than most wooden coasters I had encountered. The chain was pulling us quickly up the hill. Interesting…speed before the drop. It wasn’t a jerk. It wasn’t fast. It was just a speedy ascent to reach the crest. The first drop…whoa. This thing was FAST. Check out the video (1:31) and no, I was not the shooter!
2. Afterburn which most refer to as Top Gun. I prefer Top Gun. GREAT ride! Major speed with major thrill. You know that any ride you have to climb flights of stairs to get to the launch platform is going to be pretty intense. Top Gun straps you in with an over the shoulder harness and your feet dangle. Always a great way to enjoy a fast coaster! The first drop was intense and the immense speed was unexpected. This coaster is a favorite because of its thrill value, a little bit of fear, lots of speed, and lots of fun. I found a vid on it as well… (1:10)
3. The third favorite for the day was the scariest thing I have been on in my life. Night Hawk was thrilling, fast, ans completely disorienting. I couldn’t wait to enjoy this coaster, but as you stand in line waiting you are under the coaster and see the thrill others are experiencing. It is a major psych moment! Making it to the front of the line we were waiting for our group to get on the platform and I’m working on my nerve. The operator asks if there were in groups of two and we were the closest to the front. YIKES! My nerve wasn’t quite worked! On the ride we strapped in, full body with padded shoulder harnesses. A padded leg and lap protector comes down to hold in your lower half. Then you are lowered on your back, head first ascend. Yep, backwards. As you reach the crest the cars go into a small corkscrew where you are facing the ground when you dive. I screamed…a lot. There are loops, corkscrews, inverted dives, and speed. Lots of speed. Extremely cool. I may even refer to it as fun after our next visit. Check out the video. I don’t know how this guy held onto a camera during this ride. It was all I could do just to hold on.
A gift fit for a Queen…
or in the mind of President Obama, THE Queen.

really?
Yes. The official US gift to the Queen was an iPod loaded with showtunes and pics from her last US visit. This article says she is delighted to receive it. I’m glad she is delighted because I’m slightly embarrassed. At least the songbook for The King and I was signed and it wasn’t a set of DVDs. More thought at least went into the iPod choice. Since it had pics it was at least not the shuffle. I hope he splurged and got the touch. The white headphones are going to rock with her white hair.
And in other news…
It is unwritten etiquette that you do not touch the Queen unless she reaches out first. Someone forgot to tell this well known fact to the First Lady.

After a quick glance and step away the Queen warmed to the idea and returned the hug.
The irony here is the many are enchanted by the spontaneous embrace from the US First Lady, but appalled at the faux pas committed by other world leaders. (Lizard of Oz PM of Australia, George W winking)
Before long I do believe the title of Teflon President will be taken from Reagan.
