Obesity: Who is to blame?
Waiting for Deadliest Catch to start we watched a CNBC evaluation of obesity which was accusatory of the golden arches. Is it really their fault that America’s obesity rate is soaring? Yes their Big Burger has over 1000 calories, but it is the consumer who chooses to make the purchase. It is the consumer who chooses to eat the burger, the fries, and drink the big drink. Healthy choices are available. No, the healthy choices are not as tasty…some say. I think their fine, but then I’m one who avoids fast food and orders off the dollar menu when it is unavoidable. Several weeks ago I splurged and got the 1/4 pound of beef burger. Wow, regret that decision. If you go off fast food for a while and then venture down that path again, wow…it can mess you up. I shall spare you the details.
It isn’t the fault of the golden arches or any other fast food chain…it is the fault of the consumer. Now, fast food chains certainly do not make it easier, but it is not the place of any government to force a business to no longer sell burgers because the nation is getting fatter. There should be an attempt to inform and fast food chains should have a required level of transparency. Ultimately, it is up to the consumer to make wise choices.
Does this mean one should avoid a burger and fries? No, but eat responsibly.

Oh boy, when do people start looking for the faults with themselves and not others?
This is like going to Starbucks every day, drink something with a bunch of sugar, eat their sweets and complain about gaining weight and being bankrupt.
Insanity rules the world.
I doubt (most) people will ever learn to be responsible for their own actions

Btw. hubby has the same problem as you do. He can’t take fast food any more AT ALL.
I always had a Labrador stomach, I can eat almost anything

This drives me crazy – it’s like blaming the media. No one is forcing you to eat it!!!!

It’s not the golden arches fault I love their french fries but it’s my fault if I eat them everyday and then wonder where did that extra weight come from. We have to take responsiblity for our own actions.

I think we should avoid fast food, but sometimes it seems we can’t help it. I had a friend who use to eat at McDonalds twice a day–he loved it (I got sick of going there for the kid play area!). He had a heart attack and his doctor told him that the fast ways to the Golden Gate is through the Golden Arches!

I used to eat a lot of fast food, but quite to get healthier. Cut out a lot of sugar, too. Now so much of what I used to eat taste syrupy sweet. Blech. And the grease in a lot of things makes me feel queasy.
People who claim they are “helpless to resist” don’t garner a lot of sympathy.
