Stompin’ thru December
I have spent the last few weeks preparing my Music Appreciation students for the January 7th talent show. We’re doing our own version of Stomp.
I had Jem write a quick piece that I could play and instruct. Really amazed with the results so far. Non-drummers have picked up sticks, learned to read rhythms and play them with the talent of a band student with a few years experience. Folks, drumming is NOT easy. Teaching drumming is not easy. After each class I am WORN out! It has really turned that class into a joy to teach.
We do not have a musical outlet for students. They are hungry for it. From this I wanted my students to learn to read rhythms and learn how an ensemble works together. I think they have learned so much more. I can’t wait to post the performance video.
When something is going well it really makes the rest of the frustration worth it.

What a wonderful idea! I remember when they took music class out of our school. It was always nice to have that creative outlet and change of pace during the day.
