Lil bit will be having her tonsils out around mid-morning. I know that it is considered an easy procedure and what some would call minor, but when it is you or your child it isn’t minor.
Senseless violence takes another
A student from my school was killed in a drive this morning. Senseless violence in a crazy world. He was found dead in the car and his cousin was injured. The cousin was taken in for surgery, and there has been no further report. The student that passed was a senior, and likely to graduate in June. His aunt posted a comment on the news report.
My nephew happens to be the other passenger who undergone surgery this morning, do to this tragedy. What has become to our youth of today? When the only way they feel they can express themselves is with the use of a gun. Think hard people . . . where were they “educated” to believe that acting and treating others like prey is common and acceptable? It’s time to re-direct the education.
I’m sorry for the tragedy, but is she blaming the educational system? Really? What about the lack of positive role models in the African American community? Where was this young man’s daddy in his life? What about the daddy of the shooter? Guns aren’t allowed in school. Violence is not allowed in school. We do all that we can to keep students safe. We educate them in our subject areas. We mentor them whenever possible. We listen when they need counsel. We provide pencils, paper, pens, notebooks, binders, backpacks and anything else they need. We make them behave and send them out when they refuse. How is it the fault of the educational system? I did not birth your child and am not responsible for parenting and raising him/her. Sad.
Ya think?
From Twitter— “BreakingNews: Update: Blowout prevention mechanism at bottom of BP oil well on Gulf Coast is ‘no doubt’ defective, Interior Sec. Salazar says on CNN”
Gee, ya think it might be just a little defective? It only took them a week and a tripling in size spill to figure it out. Yes, these are our nation’s leaders.
Weekend, weekend, weekend!
For the first time in over a month, and the last time for a month, we have a weekend without pressing responsibilities. No complaints. The activity keeps the bills paid and it adds spice to life, but it is very nice to have nothing that has to be done. I have spent the morning blog hopping and facebooking, while enjoying my morning coffee. I look at my blog and realize how neglected it has been. I simply do not have the computer time that I used to have. My teaching is easier this semester, but the schedule is not. My alarm sounds at 5AM and I have to be out by 6:15 or I will not make it to school by 6:45. Students arrive in my room by 7:05 and the rest of the day is constant. I have 4th block planning and that is usually taken up with meetings or battling with the copier. I can leave at 2:45 and I try to do so, but that means I have lots to do at home because I wasn’t able to get work done at school. There is no making an assignment and grading papers because the students are so high maintenance. I have about 7 inches of grading to do this weekend. After leaving school I put on my mommy hat, grading takes second place. Since I can no longer be a night owl my computer time is minimal and I have become neglectful. I also don’t have much to say. Yep, it’s a blog funk. Nothing exciting going on here. Day to day does not change much. I should rectify that. Get out more. Take the camera…maybe geocache again. Rest is overrated anyway.
