Who they are, what they like, and the weird stuff.

I am married to the wonderful Djembe. He is a percussionist, hence the nickname Djembe. A djembe is an African drum. He is a NASCAR nut. He knows it in and out like some know baseball stats. He’s been able to use his knowledge and passion for the sport by creating a NASCAR show that airs Monday nights on the radio network he works for. If you’re going to love something, find a way to make money doing it!!! LOL.

We have two wonderful girls. The oldest I refer to as Froggy annd the youngest, Tweety.

More later, but for now here’s my favorite post about our girls…”frog days of summer”

we chose not to go on vacation for the 4th this year, a decision that was somewhat nice since the stress of a long journey was not present. no big plans for a 4th celebration, so we decided to visit “the Shoals” area in Alabama for their “Spirit of Freedom” celebration. the drive was only a little over an hour, not too bad. it was far enough away that the kids felt like they were going somewhere. so late afternoon we set off. “tweety” and “froggy” in the backseat. . . it doesnt take long for them to start antagonizing each other. “froggy”, the oldest, failed to rest earlier in the day and just wanted to nap. finally “tweety” left her alone and peace was present in our car. only 30 minutes away we hear “tweety’s” little voice in the back seat…theres a frog. “djembe” replies, “a what?”. “there’s a frog behind ‘froggy’”. i turn around to check and sure enough there is a moderate sized brown frog peeking out from behind “froggy”…keep in mind here that the “froggy” name choice has nothing to do with her liking frogs. . . So “tweety” then attempts to wake “froggy” by calling her name. both parents simultaneously “SHHHHH, no dont wake her”. so as “djembe” attempts to find a spot to pull over, “tweety” is trying to coax the frog out from behind her sister. he’s a shy little thing. we pull over…the stopping of the car causes “froggy” to stir and stretch. oh i am so hoping she does not realize she has had a sleeping buddy this whole hour! she’s still groggy when “djembe” opens the back door to retrieve the frog. “froggy” wraps her arms around his in an adorable hug. “tweety” takes the opportunity to reach behind “froggy” and retrieve the shy little frog friend. she holds him up for display then gently drops him out of her side of the car. “froggy” is still oblivious. . . thankfully. so we get all comfy back in our seats and go on our way, leaving the little frog far from home. i felt a little bad about that. do frogs get lonely? will they miss their “families” when separated? how in the snot did he get in the car? “tweety” swears she didnt bring him with us. but then, i wouldnt put that past her either, she’s the only one in the family who has any desire to play with frogs. guess we will never really know how “froggy’s” sleeping buddy joined us…but he is now on his own…in a new area, with lots of other new frogs to play with. i’ll keep my happy image and assume he made it to the water without becoming dinner.

Fort Morgan 2006!!!

Click here to see pics from our week at the beach.

We had a wonderful vacation, but it is really great to be home. For the past several years we have vacationed on Dauphin Island. Due to destruction from Katrina…and every other gulf coast hurricane… we chose to visit a different location. First we stayed the Fourth in Mobile, visiting the battleship, USS Alabama, and enjoying fireworks. It was a decent show and the weather was great. I really enjoyed the flight displays. The next day we drove to Fort Morgan.

Fort Morgan is a lot like DI, very quiet with not much to do other than the beach. It is a really great way to relax. We stayed at a pretty nice condo complex, Gulf Shores Plantation in this condo. It is a small two bedroom, but we were very comfortable. With the beach, several pools, tennis courts, putting green, golf course, and games there is plenty to keep you occupied. We chose to spend our time at the beach or pool. We did experience some rain while there. Once a thunderstorm where we had to use the indoor pool, and again just rain with sunshine where we were able to remain at the beach. If you check out the pics you can see the girls had a blast with their “boogey boards”. OK, so did I!!! I love body surfing. Tweety has no fear and had to be watched closely to prevent her from going too far out. She caught on to the surfing deal really quick. I would hate to see her try surfing for real! Froggy is a little more timid. She is not fond of critters. We did not encounter ANY jelly fish (SHOCK!) but there was a good bit of seaweed at times. She mostly feared creepy crawling crabs and the little fish that like to swim in the shallow waters of the gulf. She overcame, for the most part, and joined our surfing adventures. When the saltwater started to bother them we headed toward the curvy pool. Going from 1 1/2 - 5 feet, it was the best for the girls. There were other children to play with, but the girls really loved it when we were their playmates. I wish I had half the energy that a six year old has! All in all, not much to report. I took lots of pics, of which 60 or so are loaded on flickr.

My favorites are pasted below. Thanks for reading and hope you had a wonderful week as well.

I love the lighting of this one.

Palm tree with great light
This was an accident. A few days ago Carmi asked his readers if you ever got something unexpected when taking a photo. This is one of those. I thought the lens was foggy so I was taking pictures to test it. I expected this to be very blurry as I was waiting for the camera to adapt to the outside temp. I love it.
The girls love lightsticks. This is our last night on the beach with them glowing with joy.
