iTunes Rut

January 3rd, 2008 -- Posted in Ramblings | 5 Comments »

Sitting down to actually complete work that should have been done well before the start of ‘08 I booted the notebook and pulled up my iTunes. I must find something to entertain me while I average and enter grades. This is where I must say that playlists are great, but they enable us to get in a rut. We fail to realize that there is so much great music to be enjoyed! I pledged to update my playlists, skipped my usual (relaxing jazz, funky jazz, Terra Firma, Spyro Gyra, Pat Metheny, mellow mixes) and chose party shuffle. My tastes are laughably diverse, I will listen to anything. While I worked I enjoyed the following:

Tangled- Maroon 5
Wait A Little While- Kenny Loggins
Country Road- James Taylor
Here By Me- 3 Doors Down
Separate Ways- Journey
A Friend Like You- Big Daddy Weave
Low Rider- Terra Firma (Group out of Tupelo that I LOVE!)
God of Life- Mark Schultz
Somethings Missing- John Mayer
Trouble Sleeping- Corrine Bailey Rae
Love’s Never Been Like This-NewSong

Several of these fall on the mellow side of the party. I love music. My iPod has many songs by the artists above, but a few other favorites are Shawn McDonald, Paul Stupka (personal friend, taught with him several years ago), Phil Collins Big Band, Steely Dan, Bryan Duncan, John Tesh, Canadian Brass, Chicago, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra (Did you see them on The Next Great American Band!!!!), Jack Johnson, Santana, and so on and so on…

My next downloads will replace my long lost Aerosmith collection.

So what’s on your player? Are you stuck in a rut? Zune vs. iPod vs. Other? Had a Zune. Cool possibilities, but I swapped and love my iPod.

Did I mention that Kenny Loggins is so cool???

Audible hug

Djembe came home from a rehearsal yesterday and brought home the greatest gift. He has the opportunity to play with the church we attended in Tupelo. While there for rehearsal he was given a CD: GravityGravity by Rick and Dena Pike. (Check out their myspace and listen! If This Is Love is a favorite.) Hearing their voices and the familiar sound is an audible hug. They are both super talented.
Great gift.
Great sound.
Great reminder.

Seventh Day Slumber

October 27th, 2005 -- Posted in Ramblings | No Comments »

went to see seventh day slumber this evening. their music is a little harder than i usually like. still pretty good. i went to talk to the guy in the back right corner, jeremy…i went to high school with him. about a year ago i heard a “birthday shout out” to him on a local radio station. *head spin what?* i was shocked to hear his name…but it fit. he is such a great singer and guitar player. we were in band together in high school. great guy. i haven’t seen him in 9 years or so. i was shocked he even remembered my name. this group has a great biography. all have come a long way in their lives. it is a contemporary chrisitian rock group…a little alternative. i’m really impressed with their no fear attitude in venturing into the areas teens are most bombarded by…sex, drugs, and dysfunction. great that a band steps up to tell their own struggles and reveal the possibilities life has.

“here by me”

i have a new favorite song. “here by me” by 3 doors down. wow, it is so mellow. the guitar part is absolutely great. just calm with the scratchy mellow tone of 3 doors down. there’s even a classic guitar sound in there that just makes me wow. the lyrics are pretty powerful, but i’m about the music. the bridge is great. all around great song. fav part is the end with he counter guitar melody. i love counter melodies. almost a harmony but fits perfectly…i have a lot of favs lately…john mayer’s “stitched up” is a lot of fun. but i’m still loving metheny. i want to find some of the older pat metheny group. i really wish rhapsody would add the newer santana stuff. anyway, here’s the lyrics to 3 doors down…

“Here By Me”

I hope you’re doing fine out there without me
‘Cause I’m not doing so good without you
The things I thought you’d never know about me
Were the things I guess you always understood

So how could I have been so blind for all these years?
Guess I only see the truth through all this fear,
And living without you. . .

And everything I have in this world
And all that I’ll ever be
It could all fall down around me.
Just as long as I have you,
Right here by me.

I can’t take another day without you
‘Cause baby, I could never make it on my own
I’ve been waiting so long, just to hold you
And to be back in your arms where I belong

Sorry I can’t always find the words to say
But everything I’ve ever known gets swept away
Inside of your love…

And everything I have in this world
And all that I’ll ever be
It could all fall down around me.
Just as long as I have you,
Right here by me.

As the days grow long I see
That time is standing still for me
When you’re not here

Sorry I can’t always find the words to say
Everything I’ve ever known gets swept away
Inside of your love

And everything I have in this world
And all that I’ll ever be
It could all fall down around me.
Just as long as I have you,
Right here by me.

And everything I have in this world
And all that I’ll ever be
It could all fall down around me.
Just as long as I have you,
Right here by me.
